Dr. Nachman Shai currently serves as Israel's Minister for Diaspora Affairs.Previously, he was a Member of Knesset, from 2009-2019 as a member of the Labor party.Prior to that, Dr. Shai served as Senior Vice President and Director General in the Israel bureau of the UJC, The Federations of North America.He also held the position of Chair of the Israel Broadcasting Authority from 1999-2000.Dr. Shai was the Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Science, Culture and Sport.He concluded his military career in the IDF at the rank of Brigadier General, a career that culminated in his service as Spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces.Dr. Shai earned his Ph.d in Political Science and Communications from Bar-Ilan University.He was Associate Researcher at the John Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy at the Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government.He is a visiting lecturer at the Institute for the Study of Modern Israel at Emory University, Atlanta.
