Itai Ater is a Professor of Business Economics and Strategy at the Coller School of Management at Tel Aviv University. Itai, born and raised in southern Israel, served as an officer in the IDF's 8200 unit.
He completed his undergraduate degrees in both law and economics with distinction from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Before heading to the economics PhD program at Stanford University, he worked at the Israeli Competition Authority.
Itai's research examines the interactions between consumers, firms and government interventions in different industries. He is particularly interested in understanding the determinants of Israel's high cost of living, and how policy interventions in markets such as the real estate and food retail industries are effective in promoting competition.
In 2018-2019 he taught a course on the Israeli Economy, at UC Berkeley.
He currently serves as a board member at the Israeli Fair Trade Commission, and a research fellow at the Center of European Policy Research.
